Our 'Local' algorithm means the distance varies depending on the density of Producers in the area. The fewer the producers, the wider the app looks for more. At the beginning this will mean some decidedly not local checkin's will appear in this list - until more checkins have been made.

Good ideas - all of them. Have put them all on the chalkboard. The forthcoming web interface will allow more detailed access to check-ins. For it, and the iPhone app, we're keen to allow you to be able to look ahead - to other locations; so you can plan around food :)

Just a quick update. We're developing a Wish List feature which will allow you to plan forward. We'll also be rolling out a Global Map view, so you'll be able to browse the globe and check out producers that interest you, along with checkins made at their location.

Yep, that's about similar to what we now have in place. Currently we consider 50 miles local and restrict checkins accordingly. This will be kept under review though, to ensure the best user experience possible.
